Backed by Pat Murphy Electrical, we bring decades of local electrical experience to every job. Pat has been working as an electrician on the Sunshine Coast since 1988, so you’re dealing with a genuinely local operator rather than a national call centre or fly-in compliance service.

Whether you’re preparing your home for the 2027 Queensland smoke alarm requirements, selling a property, managing a rental or replacing ageing alarms, we can inspect your existing system and recommend a practical compliant solution.

Is Your Golden Beach Home Ready for 2027?

Queensland’s staged smoke alarm reforms reach their final stage on 1 January 2027.

By then, existing Queensland domestic dwellings must have compliant photoelectric smoke alarms that are interconnected so that when one required alarm activates, the other alarms activate as well. Required alarms are generally installed in bedrooms, hallways connecting bedrooms with the rest of the home, and on each storey.

Older homes in Golden Beach may have smoke alarms installed under earlier requirements. That does not necessarily mean the existing system will meet the 2027 requirements.

Common issues we find include:

  • alarms more than 10 years old
  • older ionisation alarms
  • alarms that are not interconnected
  • insufficient alarms for the current requirements
  • alarms in unsuitable locations
  • ageing hardwired alarms
  • alarms that no longer test correctly
